die" (hence the name change) has been slated by a London nutritionist for serving 'apalling food'. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Croydon University Hospital is one of only a handful of hospitals in the UK with it's own in house Burger King in pride of place in reception. &lt;a href="http://www.twitter.com/nutritionistw1"&gt;Yvonne Bishop-Weston&lt;/a&gt; suggests this apparent sanction and condoning of fast food rich in saturated fat, nutrient and fibre stripped carbohydrates, and few if any opportunities to achieve your NHS recommended five a day portions of fruit and vegetables is mindblowingly counterproductive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Croydon advertiser reports&lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;PATIENTS had a meagre £1.73 spent, on average, on every meal they  were given while recovering in Croydon University Hospital last year –  the lowest spending per head of hospitals used by Croydon residents.&lt;br /&gt;Figures released last week show the hospital's trust forked out  an average  of £5.18 a day   for three meals and drink for each  patient  during 2010/11.&lt;/blockquote&gt;Other nearby hospitals spend double amount that on their patient meals. most important meal of the day."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yvonne had previously helped the Vegetarian Society with their &lt;a href="http://www.vegsoc.org/vhealthy/index.html"&gt;V Healthy&lt;/a&gt; program&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other presenters included Royal author and journalist Penny Junor and vegetarian cook book author and presenter Rose Elliot &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The UK Vegetarian Society is based in Altrincham, near Manchester, Cheshire but came down to London en masse to present awards and entertain supporters at London's Canal Museum near The London Eurostar terminal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Guests were entertained by Neal and Sue Richardson and their band &lt;a href="http://www.splashpointmusic.com/impromptu/index_files/listen.htm"&gt;Impromptu&lt;/a&gt; 'Women have more emotional attachments to food – due to media pressure they attach guilt to carbs and saturated fats, and often feel a responsibility to eat healthily in a way that men don't,' she says. J. Behrman and V. Gopalan (2005) Cholesterol and plants J. Chem. Educ. in press.  Behrman and Gopalan (2005)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They suggest the following as an accurate account of the real sterol content of plants:   More than 250 steroids have been described in plants. Of these, perhaps sitosterol, which differs from cholesterol by an ethyl substituent at position 24, is the most common. But plants also contain cholesterol both free and esterified. Cholesterol occurs as a component of plant membranes and as part of the surface lipids of leaves where it is sometimes the major sterol. The quantity of cholesterol is generally small when expressed a percent of total lipid. While cholesterol averages perhaps 50 mg/kg total lipid in plants, it can be as high as 5 g/kg (or more) in animals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So there is cholesterol in plants but in very small amounts. Also experts now believe that the cholesterol your body makes (an essential function) and the balance between HDL andLDL cholesterol levels in the body are more important factors than dietary cholesterol (even from animals)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The key point is that plant foods can help your body deal with imbalance and causes of high cholesterol production that are linked with chronic disease. In fact many people embark on a vegetarian diet assuming it's healthier.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Generally that's true but the basic principles of health still have to be followed - pizza, pasta and chip butties are all vegetarian foods but there are many nutrients missing from the average examples of those foods.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are just one or two important nutrients&amp;nbsp; that you don't get "by accident" the way it's easy to do in a meat based diet so it's even more important for vegetarians to eat a varied diet to achieve an optimal nutrition balance.
