Nutritionist speaks out on Health

Health expert and London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston of Harley Street has been very busy and in the news of late, quoted in a number of newspapers

Press and Journal
Northern Echo
Irish Examiner
Also online on SoFeminine talking about inflamation information

Last weekend Yvonne was speaking at London Vegfest about how to raise your children heathily on a vegetarian / vegan diet.

Although eating a plant based diet helps you avoid greater risks associated with a standard diet there are optimisation issues you need to be aware of as with any diet. Getting the balance right with high sugar foods and adequate essential fats intake are just as important to keep an eye on as with a meat based diet.

The truth about men, women and food | Life and style | The Observer

The truth about men, women and food | Life and style | The Observer:

Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston In the Observer Magazine on the Psychology of eating and gender - men, women and food.

"Bishop-Weston sees gender differences less in how people eat, more in how they think about their diets. 'Women have more emotional attachments to food – due to media pressure they attach guilt to carbs and saturated fats, and often feel a responsibility to eat healthily in a way that men don't,' she says. 'Interestingly, though, I see a trend towards 'effort' that spans and unites the sexes. People are becoming more receptive to things that take longer. People are looking for an identity with their food."

Scots Throw Health Away

Scots Throw Away Their Health in the Frozen North:

Yvonne reminds us of the advantages of healthy nutritious frozen food to avoid waste as Scots admit to throwing away almost £500 worth of food every year.

Clinical Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston says using a freezer more is one way to save waste, just buying fresh fruit and vegetables is not enough to optimise health - they have to be eaten. Because of fear of waste many people decide then not to buy the produce in the first place - good wholemeal bread deteriorates much quicker than nutrition depleted white bread but wholemeal bread freezes well and can be toasted from frozen.

The British Frozen Food Federation say "Frozen vegetables have been proven to often contain more Vitamin C (Vitamin C is lost when 'fresh' vegetables sit around on shop shelves and in your fridge) 'Fresh' spinach loses 77% of its Vitamin C after just two days! And, bear in mind that you would be very lucky to be buying spinach from a shop only two days from picking. Fresh vegetables are often a week old by the time they reach our shops. "

Observer Food Monthly | Life and style | guardian.co.uk

Observer Food Monthly | Life and style | guardian.co.uk: Yvonne was interviewed by The Observer Food Monthly last week. As it's the school summer holidays and Yvonne was down in Beaulieu she had to conduct the interview actually in the forest, away from the house and the inevitable cacophony and chaos caused by grandparents and children shouting at each other. There's always a race to get to the phone before Grandpa answers it and shouts 'who are you?' (He's a trifle deaf) 'No - never heard of you!' and they hang up thinking it's a wrong number.

Luckily many journalists work from home these days and are also similarly precariously trapped in the same blighted 'sandwich generation' juggling caring for both parents and children.

The lure of overseas speaking engagements gets ever more attractive escape route via the legitimate excuse of 'work'. Bulgaria and a conference on antioxidants looms seductively.

ConDems Question School Nutrition

Jamie Oliver and Nutritionists furious: Junk Food Back in Schools:

Following the Con-Dems confusion over whether they will or won't condemn school milk, free school meals, nutritional standards for school meals London Nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston was on 3 Counties BBC Radio this morning to discuss what she thought was the most important health focus for schools.

"Allowing junk foods and ditching new nutritional guidelines is a much more worrying backward step by the Government than the furore over free milk. There was still more work to be done on in improving school meals so it's worrying to hear that the ConDems have condemned nutrition standards in schools"
